MILITARY: Marine Corps may lose 27,000 troops under Pentagon cuts

By Kieran Lalor, on Jan 6, 2012

The Marine Corps will shrink from about 202,000 troops to as few as 175,000 under an estimated $1 trillion in Defense Department budget cuts set to take place over the next decade.

The service has been working for months on a plan to cut its force to 186,000 troops by the end of 2014, but that number could fall even more under a strategy to absorb the cuts unveiled Thursday by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and the Obama administration.

In recent weeks, the Marine Corps has begun offering plans for early retirements and reducing the number of positions in certain job categor

By Kieran Lalor, on Jan 5, 2012

President Obama's new defense strategy amounts to an "appeasement" and a sign of weakness to America's foes, local Republicans in Congress said Thursday.

Obama and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta laid out a plan developed after a "comprehensive defense review" to trim the nation's military commitments abroad and develop a "leaner" fighting machine.

Republicans seized on the plan as evidence that the United States is less safe under the Obama administration.

"Secretary Panetta'

By Kieran Lalor, on Jan 2, 2012

Barely 100 hours after the troops were withdrawn, Baghdad was rocked by more than a dozen explosions — including suicide car bombers — that left at least 63 people dead and 194 injured.

The attacks followed the pattern long favored by al Qaeda in Iraq terrorists — before the Bush-Petraeus troop surge reined them in, of course.

And they also followed the stunning political onslaught launched by Prim

Front Page Magazine: A War Hero Is Vindicated–Again

By Kieran Lalor, on Jan 1, 2012

Seven long years after he allegedly committed “premeditated murder,” Iraq war veteran Ilario Pantano, who gave up a comfortable life on Manhattan’s Upper West Side to fight for his country following the September 11th attacks, has been thoroughly vindicated. Thus ends a saga highlighted by an unconscionable rush to judgement by the military, and the subsequent trashing of Mr. Pantano’s reputation by leftists who never miss an opportunity to denigrate American soldiers based on nothing more than unproven allegations.

By any reasonable measure, Mr. Pantano is an American patriot.
